Great place for Fish & Chips in Carmichael

Great place for Fish & Chips in Carmichael

If you are looking for great Fish & Chips, the Carmichael Tugboat Fish & Chips should be on your list of restaurants.  Located at the corner of Fair Oaks Boulevard and Wayside Lane just east of the Fair Oaks Boulevard/Manzanita Avenue split, behind Rite Aid.    The menu includes great deep fried cod, shrimp, prawns, oysters, clams, scallops and chicken filets.  My personal favorite is the Seafood Sampler, a mix of cod, prawns, oysters, and scallops, served on a bed of french fries.  The onion rings are amazing, as are the deep fried vegetables.   There is limited seating inside the old drive in hamburger stand, but there is plenty of seating on the covered patio outside.

My family was disappointed when the Wendy's at Winding Way and Manzanita Avenue closed, but when we saw construction activity in the boarded up building we wondered what the future might bring.   Soon, a bright banner announcing "Johnny Chiangs Asian Fusion" went up, and we were looking forward to sampling their food.  I never personally say the restaurant open, but there is a review on Yelp, so it must have been open for at least a few days.  But it wasn't open long enough that Sacramento County ever did a health inspection.   Stopping buy now, it looks like it's closed for the day.  But two notices in the front window tell the story.  One is from Wendy's, who apparently still hold the lease on the property,  and subleased the location to Johnny Chiangs.  The second is a 3 day order to vacate.  According to the note, the owner of Johnny Chiangs owes over $13,000 in back lease payments.   Not sure how a business c

Despite Tight Money, San Juan Finds Funds for New Sign

The San Juan Unified School District has just finished installation of a new lighted sign and landscaping in front of District Headquarters on Walnut Avenue in Carmichael.  Some neighbors have wondered where in these tight times the district found money for the sign.   Prior to this the only marking of the district offices was on the building itself.
