Has it ever occurred to you that the number of homeless people roaming our streets has increased?

In a recent study on billmoyers.com, they believe sequestration is the cause for the rising number of homeless. The lack of employment and sequestration has affected our economy to cause these changes. The loss of jobs causes people not to be able to afford the payments on their houses causing people to have to stay in hotels or cheaper homes. But as time passes and if these people don’t get a job soon they have to rely on sleeping in their cars. Due to the fact that these people don’t have money for gas they become stuck parked somewhere where their cars get towed.

In recognition of National Police Week, DA Jan Scully will host the 14th Annual Public Safety & Community Appreciation Breakfast.

This year’s event will continue a valued Sacramento tradition of bringing public safety members together with public and elected officials, business and community leaders, and individual citizens to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of those who help to keep our region safe.

Given the recent loss of fallen and wounded officers in Sacramento County and throughout California, this year’s event theme is, “Sworn to Protect & Serve: Honoring Our Wounded & Fallen Officers.” The public is encouraged to attend and help honor local public safety colleagues and their families for the sacrifices they have made in the line of duty.

$125,000 contest looking for retail business dreamers

Will you be Downtown Sacramento’s next success story?

Calling all passion-filled go getters with big ideas, people who are sparked by opportunity and possibility, we want you to join us Downtown.

Applicants interested in starting a new retail business in Downtown Sacramento can submit their business concept for consideration. The winner will receive an awards package worth approximately $125,000 which includes rent-free up to one year in a Downtown location, startup capital, and business support services.

The application process will run until May 24th and is open to entrepreneurs with a retail oriented business idea, current retailers who want to open a new concept, and those who want to expand or relocate from outside of Sacramento.

Anyone who lived in the Sacramento area in the late 1970s and then Contra Costa County and then the Los Angeles area in the early 1980's could tell you of the terror that gripped these areas as a brutal serial rapist turner killer horrified these communities. The man responsible was named the East Area Rapist/Original Night stalker.
