Weekend Adventures: Explore Old Town Fair Oaks

Weekend Adventures: Explore Old Town Fair Oaks

By Becky Warren

View from the Trail

Recently I have purchased a road bike with a friend with our intention of biking once a week (highly recommend City Works if you are interested in buying a bike). Little did I know at the time how enjoyable biking in the Sacramento area is. No matter what bike you may have, it is worth taking a bike ride along the American River Bike Trail. The bike trail follows the river where you can also enjoy the changing autumn leaves – it is an incredible experience every time.

Through our biking adventures, my favorite bike ride is riding to Old Town Fair Oaks. If you are looking for a weekend activity – I definitely recommend checking out this cute and funky community..... Read More

More Than 524,000 Meals Packed At Sacramento Area Feed My Starving Children MobilePack™ Event

More than 524,000 meals for malnourished children were packed by some 2,500 volunteers during a three-day Feed My Starving Children MobilePack™ event that concluded Saturday at William Jessup University in Rocklin.

The event, the third year in Placer County, was made possible by financial support from a number of organizations. Wells Fargo was the lead corporate sponsor, covering the cost of nearly 50,000 meals, while Randy Peters Catering and Event Planning helped cover the cost of nearly 25,000 meals.

While the event is concluded, organizers say they are continuing to seek donations to cover the cost of the meals that were packed. A $22 donation covers the cost of 100 meals. To donate, please visit www.sacfmscmobilepack.org.

Avoid Messy Problems this Holiday Season with Proper FOG Disposal

Avoid Messy Problems this Holiday Season with Proper FOG Disposal

Sacramento, CA -- Sewer blockages and backups increase by up to 50 percent during the holidays due in part to the types of leftover food put down kitchen sinks and garbage disposals. People can avoid potentially messy problems and holiday havoc by properly disposing of fats, oils and grease (FOG).

When poured down the sink, FOG accumulates in sewer pipes restricting flow and ultimately causing blockages and backups in homes and neighborhoods. The Sacramento Area Sewer District and the City of Sacramento Department of Utilities have teamed up to keep drains clog-free during the holiday season.

“Holidays are one of the worst times of year for improper disposal of fats, oils and grease. Although delicious, holiday meals create notoriously bad waste,” said Jan Holm, SASD FOG Program Manager. “Everyone can help prevent these potentially messy problems by talking to guests and kids about the best way to clean up dishes and leftover food after a holiday meal.”
