Cooler temps here to stay for Memorial Day weekend

Cooler temps here to stay for Memorial Day weekend

Cool temperatures on Friday will continue into the Memorial Day holiday weekend. News10 meteorologist Mellisa Paul said Saturday we'll see variable clouds through the valley and highs in the low 70s. Snow showers are expected up in Tahoe so if you're headed there for camping, be prepared.

Sunday and Monday (Memorial Day) will be mostly sunny in the valley but more clouds through the foothills and Sierra, said Paul. Highs will be in the mid 70s.

On Tuesday, you'll head back to work in partly to mostly sunny skies and highs unseasonably cool in the lower 70s.

Tree topples in Fair Oaks neighborhood

FAIR OAKS, CA - Around 4:45 Thursday afternoon, a neighbor down the street felt the ground shake.  Across the street, Scott Hudson felt it, too, but thought something had happened in his backyard.  Instead, it was out front.  The 80 foot tall pine tree that had stood for years in Randy Burleson's front yard had fallen over.

"Luckily, it didn't hit any cars or houses and no one was injured," Burleson said, obviously saddened by the loss of the tree.

"My wife really liked that tree," he said.

As the massive tree fell over, it ripped out a section of Burleson's concrete driveway and broke a pipe from the water main leading into his home.

The giant branches spread across the street.

"That's usually where I park my car," neighbor Hudson said, "but this was the one time a year I parked it in the driveway!"

Neighbors came out to look; the county is sending a crew out Friday.

Fog, cold temps here to stay

Fog, cold temps here to stay

Northwest winds and patchy low clouds overnight lead to Thursday morning's foggy conditions during the commute. But skies cleared and the sun will be shining by afternoon as a high pressure ridge builds in across the state, according to News10 meteorologist Mellisa Paul.

Highs for Thursday will be near 60 and north winds will calm throughout the day leading to a foggy Friday forecast in the valley. But the fog should clear late in the day Friday for an afternoon of sunshine and highs remaining near 60.
